Programme
The 9th Pacific Rim Bio-Based Composites Symposium organising committee would like to welcome the Pacific Rim Bio-Based Composites Symposium back to its birthplace. New Zealand was host to the inaugural Pacific Rim Bio-Based Composites Symposium in 1992. The theme of the 2008 Symposium is “Innovation and Challenges in Bio-based Composites – How Far to the New Frontier?”
The key objective of this international symposium is to provide a forum for discussion and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information on the latest development and findings in bio-based composites. Among the target groups are scientists and experts from the relevant industries, government agencies, universities and research institutions. In addition, this symposium will be a forum to promote and strengthen further cooperation and networking amongst the researchers, experts, manufacturers and machine suppliers for the development of bio-based composite industries.
Symposium Programme
The Symposium scope includes all aspects of bio-based composites. Themes will cover:
• Bio-resources (including characterization, supply, processing, environmental, economic, future challenges and opportunities of wood or non-wood fibres)
• Adhesives and bonding (current and new adhesives; adhesive mechanisms and characterization; future challenges and opportunities)
• Chemical modification and utilisation of fibrils and fibres (fundamental and applied aspects)
• Processing technologies (including existing and new production technologies, process modelling, material interactions, production and demand trends)
• New analytical techniques
• Sustainable development and manufacture of bio-composites
• New composite products
• Economics, management and marketing
• VCO / Formaldehyde
• New / niche value products
